I rarely paint but when I do I make it count. this was done earlier this year..or last..on an old Yugoslavian textbook written half latinic and half cyrillic..I can read both and it is a literature textbook
and here comes the rant. -------------------------------------------- what made me a bit angry is that daily deviation of today, those poorly drawn cats, with no apparent anatomy, just grotesquely spread on that page of words. and those are sold for 40$ here, have a look:
I've seen the artist's work, it's a decent one with understanding of colors and such, but seriously, to make THAT as a DD? and to sell those poorly drawn doodles at such a high price?
I am disappointed
FEEL FREE TO HATE ME IT JUST HAD TO BE SAID
but do take a look at her gallery, all her art is not crap like this I actually like her aquarel paintings
and it saddens me that from all her other beautiful art THIS one got picked... I feel as it's some kind of mockery on one hand, denying her other BETTER work and praising THIS
ALSO DONT GET ME WRONG I'm not saying I am better than her, I am not, I still have a lot to learn and this isn't a attention seeking post. Its dissapointment in society that ignores the artist's better work and praises the lesser.
There is a tale about a king and his cook. The king wanted to eat something really delicious and really special. The poor cook conjured him the most exotic, the most delicious foods to the king but he still was unsatisfied. The king ordered to execute the cook who hearing this decided to flee. The king was so angry that he went after the cook himself. He found his servant sitting on a high tree eating bread - after so much running the cook was hungry. When the cook saw the king he was so frightened that he dropped the bread. The king picked up the bread and tasted it. He asked the cook: 'Why didn't you give me such delicacy before?' To cut short: people can find anything special if it's new to them.
Damn it, da bar mogu citat cirilicu.
Wheel of Fortune is one mean bitch.
Wow Rae, this is a really delightful piece! I love the combination of paint and ink (as you already know hah). The way the white ink covers up the type on the page and brings some of garment's edges, the bridge of the nose, and the eye into the foreground while everything else sits behind the text is a nice effect. Also, the shades of red and brown have that vintage-artist's-notebook feel that I really enjoy.
I have to agree with you that it's kind of unfortunate that from all the the possible pieces in the artist's gallery, that one was chosen. It just makes me think of non-artists finding out that you do art, seeing a bit of your work, being impressed or finding something they like...
...and then asking you to paint their pet. There's nothing wrong I suppose with painting someone's pet, but...to me, that feels kind of like a let down. Years of effort in technical and conceptual practice and then..."will you paint my cat??" She does deserve a DD, but her other pieces should have been featured. There's so much in them.
Hm, wow, I'm still not over that white ink...so nice.
On another note, I watch you and appreciate your work greatly. I am sure you will achieve a DD at some point, certainly have produced some nice pieces worthy of the honour. If I could put in a vote for your work i would certainly do so, however I have no idea how the process works. Fingers crossed you achieve that sought after accolade but please remember world renown comes usually after you have shaken off your mortal coil and somebody else reaps the financial rewards. Now that is a crime against art and the artist.

drawing on book pages is fun cause letters themselves give a texture and are fun to play around with ^^
my words exactly there!
(I wish I was as good in explaining, but alas, I'm a retard regarding that matter xD)
white ink is the best thing that happened to the artworld. get your hands on a bottle it shouldn't be expensive and it lasts
